July 28th 2013, will be the date for the 2013 Milford Criterium. Over 30 years ago, championship road events were once held at the GM Milford Proving Grounds. Building on the successes of the previous four years, we plan to enhance the 2013 edition of the Milford Criterium to provide what we call "the complete race experience." For those unfamiliar with our event, we will try to answer the question "what is a crit," below. Before that, "why a bike race?" First, this is more than just a bike race. This is a celebration of healthy, active living and community. As it continues to grow, it will provide a significant positive impact to the sport, community and local economy.

What Is A Criterium?
A criterium, or more commonly referred to as a "crit," is a short, multi-lap, closed circuit road cycling race traditionally held in an urban setting with its roots in Europe. In this instance, the race incorporates a Main Street start and finish and includes some wicked turns in and through Central Park within the Village of Milford. This affords spectators the opportunity to see the racers each lap, observe the action as it unfolds, and actually feel the action and excitement. Because the course is short (usually less than a mile), it is common for fans to "walk the course" and see the action from a variety of vantage points. (Think NASCAR for bicycles, but you're not stuck in your seat the whole time.) Envision, too, Main Street lined on both sides with banners, flags and cheering race fans ringing their race bells as cyclists battle it out. Crit racing provides day-long excitement where spectators can experience the adrenaline rush up close. This explains why criterium racing is the most popular form of competitive road cycling in the US.
